Get discounts on summer sea-kayaking at the Redwood Hostel

Trinidad Cove kayaker

Cruise California’s "Lost Coast" this summer on a kayaking adventure! The Redwood National Park Hostel has teamed up with Kayak Zak’s to offer the Cruising with Kayak Zak discount package, including two nights of accommodation and a two-hour guided sea-kayaking trip, for only $105 per person. Coupons for $5 discounts on lagoon kayak rentals are also available, making the Redwood Hostel a prime launching pad for sea-going expeditions this season.

Sign up for the "Cruising with Kayak Zak" package, and set off with a professional guide on a birding and whale-watching tour of Trinidad Cove in Humboldt County. Using single and tandem sit-on-top kayaks, you’ll get close to nature in a way that landlubbers can’t, with close-up views of shorebirds, marine mammals, and ancient rock formations from the water.

This trip is appropriate for beginners as well as more experienced kayakers, and includes a brief kayaking lesson before launch. Wetsuits, helmets, lifejackets, windbreakers, and booties are also provided. In addition, Kayak Zak’s offers an "adaptive kayak" program, which means they are trained and able to adapt kayaks, paddles, gear, and techniques for persons with disabilities, sports injuries, preexisting conditions, and joint pain.

After your afternoon paddling on the cove, return to the Redwood Hostel to warm yourself by the woodstove, cook a hearty meal in the hostel’s fully-equipped kitchen, and rehydrate with complimentary bottled water from Native Springs, a 100% Native American owned and operated company supporting Klamath River restoration. The only lodging within Redwood National and State Parks, the hostel is the perfect hide-away to relax and reflect after your day’s excursion.

In addition to the "Cruising with Kayak Zak" package, hostel guests can request $5 discount coupons for kayak rentals at Big Lagoon County Park near Orick, California. That means three hours of kayaking fun with mini-lesson included, for just $25 for a single kayak or $35 for a double.

Sharing a 3.5-mile sand spit with the Pacific Ocean, Big Lagoon is Humboldt County’s warmest body of water. Spend an afternoon paddling the 9-mile perimeter of the enclosed lagoon, alongside shore birds and river otters frolicking in the calm waters. You can also paddle up Maple Creek, where you’ll often spy Roosevelt Elk from your kayak.
