Sacramento Hostel participates in the Second Saturday Art Walk

painting

Join artists and art lovers alike on April 12 at the Sacramento Hostel for a compelling, one-day-only art exhibition by local artist Kyle Hittmeier.

Hittmeier created this series of photographs and paintings — dubbed "Compiny" — in the Sacramento Hostel by inviting willing hostel guests to pose next to his own friends and family for portraits.

The resulting pieces, according to the artist, "address the seemingly unfamiliar by exploring boundaries among strangers," and invite the viewer to guess who is friend and who is stranger in this site-specific exhibition.

The installation is part of Sacramento’s city-wide Art Walk, which takes place on the second Saturday of each month. During the event, galleries in Sacramento stay open late into the evening, allowing people to walk from gallery to gallery, viewing, experiencing, and discovering local art and meeting artists.

While galleries all over the city participate in the Sacramento Art Walk, most are clustered in two main areas: Midtown Sacramento and along Del Paso Boulevard in the Uptown Art District (the number of Downtown galleries is also growing). These areas support thriving arts communities, and the venues’ close proximity, walkable streets, interesting boutiques, and many restaurants make for an enjoyable, leisurely walk.
