Though belts are tightening around budgets for the new year, San Francisco’s Dine About Town and Sacramento’s Dine Downtown events give visitors an excuse to loosen them a notch or two.

This January, numerous top-rated (and top-dollar) restaurants are offering fixed-price, set lunch and/or dinner menus in both cities, giving diners a chance to experience Northern California’s culinary gems at a much more moderate cost.

Dine Downtown, Sacramento

January 10-16, 2009

Sactown foodies, mark your calendars for the fourth annual Dine Downtown Restaurant Week, when 24 of Downtown Sacramento’s top restaurants offer special, three-course prix-fixe dinners for $30 per person (not including tax and gratuity).

Participating restaurants include 58° and Holding Co., The Firehouse Restaurant, Gaylord India, Frank Fat’s, the Pilot House on The Delta King, Table 260, and more.

Many of these restaurants are within easy walking distance of the Sacramento Hostel. Diners can take advantage of the hostel’s Half-Price Winter Weekend Special, making for a memorable — and budget friendly — weekend out in the state’s capital city.
